Migrant Woman association is a non-profit organisation, which works to promote and support equality, integration and social inclusion of migrant women in the UK.
Adjusting to a new life in the UK is often a traumatic process with language barriers, restrictive immigration legislation and absence of supportive networks, all of which exacerbate the vulnerability of migrant women. At this stage the physical transition from one place to another, involves all the necessary psychological and social steps. This transition can also be exacerbated through waiting for and the after-effects of decisions on asylum, the loss of previous social networks, possible lowered self-esteem in the new country, ambivalence related to the decision to escape and the choice of returning, and the dream of returning to the homeland country when the refugees become immigrants.
Our challenge is to support them during this process and to tackle the psychological, social, legal and cultural obstacles they face.
Our projects provide migrant women with:
– Media engagement
– Personal and professional development
Our services are free and confidential and are designed to fit together as ‘wrap-around’ support.
